![]() There are many types of below-knee prosthesis, they are mainly divided into the following categories: 1. Traditional calf prostheses Conventional calf prostheses adopt a plug-in socket. The Medi-Rehatek prosthesis has a shell-like structure, which includes a metal knee hinge and a leather tube-shaped parts onthigh. The tube-shaped parts tightens and immobilizes the prosthesis when wearing, therefore it will affect the blood circulation. The adaptation of prosthetic socket is not reasonable enough, which can not be fully contacted with the residual limb; but the calf hinge will immobilize the knee joint with a strong capacity of bearing load and the production cost is also lower. ![]() According to the different materials of prosthetic socket, this prosthesis can be divided into aluminum calf prosthesis, leather calf prosthesis, wood calf prosthesisand so on. At present the production of traditional below-knee prosthesis has limited in prosthesis factory, most are aluminum calf prosthesis. Leather calf prosthesis has the advantage of softness and comfort and better insulation, is more suitable forpatients in northern regions. Wood calf prosthesis has good ventilation,is not easy to deformation, easy to clean. There are still some patients who are happy to use. ![]() 2.Calf prostheses with patellar ligament bearing load Calf prosthesis with patellar ligament bearing load is the first product of modern prostheses, on which patellar ligament is the main load-bearing parts (the front of prosthetic socket has a groove). The socket is formed by vacuum of layers of resin composite material. The prosthesis removes the metal knee hinge and tube-shaped parts on thigh. Therefore, compared with the traditional calf prosthesis, it changesthe plug-in socket to open socket that is fit to residual limb and has the major part to bear load. It is more in line with the requirements of the human anatomy. The prosthesis removes tube-shaped parts on thigh, which reduces the blood circulation,It is more comfortable and convenient to wear.
